Leadership and Assessment

Targeted support:

Increase the capacity of First-Time Principals to act as chief executives of their schools in particular in relation to National Administration Guidelines 2 to 6.

The expected outcomes:

This programme will help;

  • strengthen capability of schools and school leadership to achieve continuous improvement that accelerates progress for all students and particularly for target groups of students
  • use inquiry frameworks and assessment for learning in ways that inform and develop high quality teaching and learning programmes and strong foundations in key competencies for students that contribute to vocational and qualifications pathways
  • make significant identifiable improvement in student outcomes in literacy and numeracy in the context of The New Zealand Curriculum and National Standards

Methods of delivery

This PLD provides differentiated approaches that reflect individual school contexts and their unique nature especially in terms of culturally responsive pedagogy. Provision of PLD is tailored to meet the needs of the school and the time commitment would be negotiated with the school in consultation with the regional MoE. This time commitment is subject to regular review. The in-depth programme is in-school support tailored to meet the identified needs of the school via:

  • Workshops
  • Blended e-learning opportunities through webinar and Virtual
  • Learning Network
  • Clustering of schools where appropriate
